I’m traveling with AirTran airlines, and I’m allowed to take 1 suitcase with the total of it’s dimensions below 55inches, and one personal item, like a purse.
If I bought this 2 piece set, http://www.target.com/Travelers-Choice-Rio-Luggage-2-pc/dp/B001CJU6GQ/ref=br_1_22?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=1121276&node=1121276&searchRank=price&searchPage=1&searchSize=30&id=Travelers%20Choice%20Rio%20Luggage%202-pc Would the suit case be considered my 1 carry on, and the separate duffel bag would be my personal item? Or would they consider the smaller bag as luggage and make me check the suit case?
Haha, that’s a pretty sporty briefcase! Business meetings on-the-go! Haha. Hmm, well if I take a purse, are there usually any size limitations for purses? If I can take a large purse, I can pack some more crap in there too! :O

I don’t know how picky they are, but I have gone on a plane with an arrangement like that and carried it on.
Here’s what AirTran says: “Carry On. For carry-on baggage, all customers traveling on AirTran Airways will be restricted to one carry-on item and one personal item. Personal items include handbags, umbrellas, walking sticks, coats, cameras, reading matter, infant food, briefcases, and laptop computers.”
Put some paperwork in the second bag and call it your briefcase
** It would be a crazy briefcase, but I’ve seen some crazy things on the news about things people bring on planes. They should have a website with that stuff! You’re limited to the two bags including the purse. I think the rule when I flew was one larger bag for the overhead compartment, and then your second carry on briefcase or duffel had to fit under the seat. It depends on how picky they are. I’ve never been on AirTran. Here’s their contact page to ask questions. There are also things they won’t let you bring onto planes for security reasons.
Where are you going? Coming to see me?!! Super.
No i think that small bag will be considered as hand bag. But mainly it depends on the airline service. But basically the rule is that a small bag of suitable size like this one which a you can carry in your hand is not considered as your luggage.
you could buy the set and take both, but just be sure to put your purse inside one of the bags. A lot of times the customer service agents are too busy to catch everyone who has too many items but the rule is 2 items MAX! Airlines can actually be fined if they let you on with more! So just be sure you only have 2 items total. The smaller carry on item can be a purse or backpack or briefcase etc. or the small duffel from the set. You should be fine! I usually just bring my biggest purse and stuff tons of stuff in there. Enjoy the trip!
