Shisha-Man asked:
So i have checked the website for AirTran and can’t seem to figure out the rules for checking luggage onto a plane. I plan on taking a small suitcase and a backpack with me. The suit case meets the size and weight requirements for carrying it onto a plane. Will they charge me extra to bring my backpack on as well? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

no knives, or any types of lotion or shampoo (unless its a medical condition.) ummm, no toothpaste, medicine (unless its medical.)
no guns-of course- and thats about it it hink
No. When flying you are allowed one carry on (this would be your small suitcase) and one personal item (your backpack). You shouldn’t have any troubles.
Help me?
One Suitcase in checked baggage and
One personal Bag like a pocketbook, laptop bag, or book bag
No liquids over 3.4 ounces and all liquids separated during TSA inspection packed into a small ziplock bag
You should be able to take both, but one goes up over head and the other has to go under the seat in front of you.
From their website……….
For carry-on baggage, all customers traveling on AirTran Airways will be restricted to one carry-on item and one personal item. Personal items include handbags, umbrellas, walking sticks, coats, cameras, reading matter, infant food, briefcases, and laptop computers.
Assistive Devices. Canes, walkers, crutches, and other assistive devices capable of being collapsed small enough to fit in overhead bins or underneath a seat are welcome inside the cabin and will not count toward your carry-on limit.
Baggage
Dimensions. No carry-on item may exceed overall dimensions of 55 inches (length + width + height). All carry-on items must fit under the seat or in the overhead bin. Any heavy item must be placed underneath the customer’s seat. Any item with inflexible surfaces must be placed underneath the customer’s seat or flat on the floor of an overhead bin.
Yes they will if your total luggage weighs more than 10 kilos Your carry on bag can weigh up to 7 kilos then if you have another bag then that must be less than 3 kg they consider a hand bag or jacket what ever is carried on
For the TSA prohibited items:
The TSA 3-1-1 rule:
But if your question is only specifically about the baggage restrictions on Airtran, from their website:
For carry-on baggage, all customers traveling on AirTran Airways will be restricted to one carry-on item and one personal item. Personal items include handbags, umbrellas, walking sticks, coats, cameras, reading matter, infant food, briefcases, and laptop computers.
I think you can get away with your backpack being your “personal item,” especially if it isn’t crammed full. If not, and they require you to gate check it, they’ll charge you an extra $25.
If you are having trouble understanding the airline’s information pages regarding luggage try the site i’ve sourced below. It basically puts all the information regarding luggage in one place, and will show you the costs you can expect with taking extra bags. Hope that helps
Hi Shisha-Man,
Your backpack would have to count as your personal item, and to quote from AirTran’s website:
‘Personal items include handbags, umbrellas, walking sticks, coats, cameras, reading matter, infant food, briefcases, and laptop computers.’
No mention in the list of a backpack, so there’s a good chance you’d not be allowed both a suitcase and a backpack. My advice would be to choose between checking the case (for $15), or ditching the backpack.
Happy Traveling!
