I traveled from N.O. to St. PAul on the train and loved it.
any suitcase that you would use to fly will work. Bring a blanket and something to do while on the train.
It’s really nice if you have a sleeper room. I’ve gone from Raleigh to NYC and it was really a nice way to travel. Dress would be business casual. I rode the Amtrak “Carolinian” both times and had a viewliner roomette. Very comfortable and scenic.
