hi i recently flew from LA to London with a connecting flight in JFK. i went american airlines form LA to JFK and then continued on with virgin atlantic. i reached JFK at 10pm (my connecting flight was at 11:25pm), it took about 20 minutes to move from terminal 8 to terminal 4. upon arriving at terminal 4, i asked the man at the virgin help desk where i could get my boarding pass, as i hadn’t been issued one in LA. he told me that i hadn’t been checked all the way through by the people at the american airlines desk in LA, and all though i was an hour and 5 minutes earlier than take off he told me i would not be able to check in and that i would have to wait for a flight the following day. i ended up having to book a hotel for the night. upon reaching london, my bags were still in JFK and i had to fill out a form to have them delivered. (it took two days for my bags to be delivered) when i finally got my bags, the one had been ripped open and then taped up (asuming that there was an inspection done on my luggage.) the bag is impossible to use again due to the damage, and although it was taped there were many open gaps on the bag. later while inspecting i found that i was missing a shoe (yes one shoe, the pair cost about 140$ us), a phillips electrical shaver costing about 200 GB pounds, and a pair of sunglasses costing about 200$.
will i be compensated for my missing items, and damaged luggage.
and what are the chances i can be compensated for the trouble of my flights, the wait and the hotel booking, i’m a frequent flyer and this is the first time i have ever not been checked all the way through, even when flying domestic before going international.
