Can aluminium panniers and top box with the racks be got for a Yahama XT600?

suit luggage
brown_bull asked:

The year of manufacture of the bike is 2000 so i think it might be an E model but im not sure, i think it was later on, maybe 2003 / 2004 before Yahama brought out the X,R,Z models, all the rack systems ive found are for these models im just worried i might no be able to get a rack that suits, i dont want to have to get one specially made, that would cost a fortune has anyone had a bike like this in around the same year, i think its an E model not a 100%, if so i would be looking to get aluminium panniers prob 20L – 30L in size with a top box of the same size and racks to suit….why do most people I see only have the panniers and not the top box is there a good reason for this….wind deflection or something….have anyone got any pics of this model with the luggage system fitted…or any other good advice on this model of bike….

    Hello

    Have you tried

Yamaha XT 600 3TB 1995 and newer, aluminium pannier kit, 35/41 litres, pre-assembled.

Personally I prefer Full Dress with a big enough Top Box for 2 Helmets.

The old Silver Wing was Ideal, Full Dress and 600cc
Only reason I can think of is difficulty in getting On/Off With top box if Driver in place

    its a xt600 E…
as mentioned duratec do panniers but there far overpriced…search on ebay for xt/xtz pannier mounts…ive gotten a couple of sets for mine from there.
i used the sdt expanding panniers and tail pack, inc tank bag…igot a weeks worth of close for 2,a tent and all utensils in them.

Metal Mule make one for the XT600E.

The reasons for avoiding top boxes are, I guess, to do with mounting and dismounting and they are not that aerodynamic, wide panniers however do slow down filtering.

Most pannier manufacturers are small companies that really know fitment – so call and ask!

I agree that Touratech is very spendy. Good quality, but you can get the same for much less, just without the trendy sticker!

The main reason not to do the top box on an adventure bike is it’s tough to swing a leg over the top of ‘em. Us short folks are reduced to picking up our leg and tossing it over the saddle, hoping we don’t get our bootlace caught on the coat sleeve velcro. Not pretty.
